Olo was six when he fled from Tibet. His mother gave him a push forward and said, ''study hard''. Living in Dharamsala, northern India, Olo asks ''why did my mother urge me to leave my homeland?'' The camera films him as he looks for an answer by himself.

In addition to Olo's personal journey, viewers watch as the relationship between director and subject evolves. In an interview with the Nikkei, director Hisaya Iwasa explained that "The process to get along with Olo was important for me", and this devotion is readily apparent throughout the film.

This film is Mr. Iwasa's second film featuring Tibet, and is another chance for the director to engage with the local people who attracted him to Tibet in the first place. "Olo. The boy from Tibet" which began being screened this summer, will be shown during the 7th UNHCR Refugee Film Festival.
