The Land of the Wandering Souls
Director: Rithy Panh
France / Cambodia(1999)
100 min
Audio: Khmer Subtitles: Japanese
In 1999 construction began to lay the first optical-fiber cable across war-ruined Cambodia. As the construction site advanced across the country, it created temporary work for some, but also forced many in its path including farmers, demobilized soldiers, and poor families to adopt a nomadic lifestyle. Meanwhile, the open trenches reveal the haunting presence of millions of dead people without tombs.
