Surrounded by nature, Ibrahim lived with his wife and eleven children in Turkish Kurdistan in peace and with stability. But everything came crumbling down just before his adult children were able to start university.
As the conflict between Turkish Army and Kurdish Workers Party (Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan or PKK) suddenly intensified, Ibrahim's hometown became embroiled in the conflict and many innocent civilians were killed.
To Ibrahim, the most important things were his family, the beautiful nature of his homeland and his bees; all of which was cruelly taken from him.
With the Turkish Army's attention on him due to his children's involvement with the anti-government movement, Ibrahim felt his family would be in further and unacceptable danger if he stayed. He made the difficult decision to flee alone for the sake of his family's safety, and continued to live as a refugee for seven years.
His family who stayed behind were interrogated over and over again, and Ibrahim's prized Beehives were destroyed. Without the resources to make a living, Ibrahim's family is forced to live in difficult circumstances. To make matters worse Ibrahim's wife despairs at the news of her children's deaths in the conflict and takes her own life. Despite his best efforts, Ibrahim loses his four precious children, loving wife and home.
