【Film Info】The Road to Tawergha
As the Arab Spring took root in the north African country, Libyans rose up against their leader, Muammar Gaddafi.
The conflict between anti-government rebels and the government intensified, turning the country into chaos.
The city of Misrata, the rebels' stronghold became a key battlefield, and residents faced severe sanctions by the Gaddafi regime.
Gaddafi had dispatched people of Tawergha as civilian fighting forces, in an attempt to repress the anti-government movements by triggering antagonism among the Libyan people.
The confusion seemed to have settled for once. However, it was followed by a number of violent reprisals against the people of Tawergha. Many innocent civilians were captured, tortured, and killed. More than 30,000 people were forced to abandon their homes, many fleeing the country.
Even after the collapse of the Gaddafi regime, the Libyan government is still struggling to alleviate the hatred among its people. It seems to be a long way before conciliation.
This documentary brings the aftermath of the Arab Spring in Libya to light.
