THE CUBAN RAFTERS

Directors: Carlos Bosch and Josep Maria
Spain (2002)

120 min.
Genre: Documentary

In August 1994 Fidel Castro invited his citizens to leave Cuba if they wished. Some 50,000 people piled onto homemade rafts and set out for Miami. The exodus lasted 15 days until the US government intervened, leaving tens of thousands of refugees caught in the middle. This is the story of Cuban refugees who risked their lives in homemade rafts to reach the United States, and what life is like for those who succeeded.
